Get to Know our Fourth Grade Teacher, Marilynn Stubbs
Where did you attend grade school/high school and what did you think you wanted to do when you grew up?
I attended school in West Lafayette, Indiana. In those days, I had a desire to major in forestry. I went to Purdue and studied forestry for two years. At that time, I became a Christian and the Lord led me into education. I transferred to Ball State where I graduated with a degree in special education with a minor in music therapy and flute performance. After graduation, I taught for three years, married and started our family of four children. The next 25 years were busy raising and home schooling our children until our youngest one graduated from high school.
Is there a particular moment or memory that stands out for you when you were a student?
Going to 5th grade camp at Camp Tecumseh grew my love for nature. Later, in high school, the teacher of the biology classes encouraged us to experience and understand the amazing design and detail of creation.
What attracted you to HLS and what have you learned about yourself after working for this school? What inspires you?
At HLS I have found a group of people who have the same passion for the truth of God’s Word and for the development and education of each student that was as important to me as a home-schooling teacher and mother. HLS allows me to teach, pray for and encourage each student. I have also found a place for me to continue to learn more about each subject and how to effectively present such rich material.
What do you want HLS parents to know about you? What are your hobbies, interests and passions?
I am passionate about the study of God’s Word and His creation. I enjoy hiking, riding bikes and being outdoors. I also enjoy playing the flute, knitting and spending time with my husband, adult children and grandchildren.
What would you say to someone considering sending their children to HLS?
The quality of education is exceptional, with a caring staff of teaching professionals.
