In October, the second grade class began reading Little House in the Big Woods. This book does a great job of showing the students what life would have been like for a child in America in the late 1800's. To help bring the story to life, they tasted foods that the children in the story enjoyed, such as Johnny cakes, real maple syrup, pure maple candy, and vinegar pie. During their enrichment time the students have been enjoying reading fables and fairy tales and discussing the similarities and differences.

The third grade class is working on expanding their vocabulary, using common Latin sayings, and learning conjugations and declensions in Latin. They have been reading Farmer Boy and have enjoyed trying some of the foods in introduced in the book such as egg-nog, fruit jams/jellies with home-made bread, goat-cheese and butter-milk. In Astronomy they are working on memorizing the 15 brightest stars, using the overhead to draw the constellations, and finding them in the night sky with their families.
